What Will the Job Market Look Like in 2017?

What Will the Job Market Look Like in 2017?

According to the latest ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey released today by ManpowerGroup, 19% of employers plan to hire in the first quarter of 2017. This is the same projection as one year ago, and down 3% from the 4th quarter 2016 outlook. While these results aren’t outstanding, it certainly represents an optimistic outlook. Here’s how some of the other survey results came out:

Survey says:

  • 19% of U.S. employers plan to hire in Q1 – that’s almost one out of five employers. Not bad odds if you are looking for a job.
  • 73% of workplaces plan to hold staff levels steady.
  • 13 out of 13 industry sectors revealed positive outlooks – that means improvement is not limited to one type of work environment. The industry sectors reporting the strongest hiring intentions include Leisure & Hospitality, Wholesale & Retail Trade, Transportation & Utilities and Professional & Business Services.
  • The best metro areas for jobs include: Fort Myers, FL; Phoenix, AZ; Tucson, AZ; San Francisco, CA; Salt Lake City, UT; Austin, TX; El Paso, TX. If you are in those areas, your job prospects are higher than the average.

So, let the optimist in you take over and use these results to help guide some of your job search decisions. There are going to be jobs out there; it’s up to you to find them.
