Do You Want a Career Redo?

Do You Want a Career Redo?

What would you do if you could start your career over tomorrow? Would you pick the same path, something similar or take a totally different road?

For many of us, the idea of a complete switch seems crazy or downright impossible, but it doesn’t have to be. Even if you can’t do a total 180, you could always do some tweaking to your current career to get closer to where you’d really like to be. Here are a few thoughts on the possibilities of a career switch.

Major switch: If you want to make a drastic switch, you may have to go back to school. If you’re ok with that, start checking out various program options – full-time, part-time, online, certificates, etc. A change like this often requires more than just desire. You have to consider other factors as well, such as timing, finances and more. This option will require a great deal of commitment. Are you up for it?

Minor switch: This type of career change could require some new skills, but more often than not, it will be in a switch of focus. You may be ok with your work in general, but want to switch up how or where you do it. Or, maybe you want to do something that is an offshoot of what you do now. Any way you want to make the change will be exciting, and less disruptive than totally starting over. If you want something a little different, but can’t or don’t want to spend the time and effort to go back to square one then this is a safer option.

As with any career decision, there is a lot to consider. Will the timing ever be right to make the switch? Maybe. Maybe not. It never hurts to think about the “what if…” It’s up to you to do it.
