Are You Going to Your Dream Job?

Are You Going to Your Dream Job?

Let’s face it. Most of us are not heading out the door each morning on the way to our dream job. Why? Maybe the timing was off? Maybe you had another offer that you couldn’t refuse? Whatever the case, it’s still not too late to go after your dream job. You just have to make up your mind to do it. Studies consistently show that if you are satisfied and engaged at work, your will be happier all around.

Here are a few ways to get back on track to your dream job:

  1. Refresh your dream. Make sure you know exactly what you want and why you want it. Remember your passion for the dream. Start defining your dream – job titles you may want, where you want to work, how you want to work, what you want to accomplish and more.
  2. Network. Always make networking a top priority when looking for a job – dream job or not. Start finding people in the roles, companies, industries, technologies, etc. where you want to be. Don’t be afraid to reach out and make new friends.
  3. Ask about jobs that aren’t posted. Go ahead and even “apply” to them. Find a relevant contact at the company where you wish to work and send them your proposal to request employment. Make a compelling case for your dream job and why the company needs you. Have a great story to tell and make sure you can sell it.
  4. Build a top-notch body of work. Don’t leave any question in an employer’s mind when they hear your story. Have examples to back up your skills. Talk with positive energy when you describe how you can do your dream job.
  5. Get out and look. Your dream job probably isn’t going to land in your lap. You have to find it; which can take some time and dedication. It goes beyond just being social on social media sites; you have to get out of the house and look. Nobody said it would be easy.

It’s up to you. Working in a job that makes you happy can really pay off. No time like the present!
