A Great Candidate Experience for All
Ever had a great or not-so-great experience when applying for a job? I’m sure we all have a few stories to tell. Some companies do a better job than others when it comes to the job process. The Candidate Experience Awards (CandEs) do exactly that: recognize employers who deliver an excellent experience to candidates throughout the application process. Think about it – we all know the application process can be stressful and frustrating at times. On the flip side, what can candidates do to facilitate a good experience in the application process?
A great experience for all will benefit both the employer and the job seeker. Here are a few tips to make your experience positive.
Get engaged with the prospective employer. Follow their blog(s), attend any free webinars or events they sponsor, review your network to see if you know anyone that works there. Not only does this help you learn more about the company but it might give you some insight on the value they place on candidates and the experience you can expect.
Follow instructions. A good application process is typically easy to follow and streamlined. That said, it’s still important to follow the process and adhere to the instructions provided.
Provide honest feedback. The CandE Awards Report indicates that an essential element for employers to make the most of the candidate experience is to ask candidates for feedback throughout the process. So, if you are asked for feedback on your application experience at a company, be descriptive and honest about the experience. Don’t just say it was good or bad but provide details on what elements were impressive or frustrating. The more detailed the feedback the better the chance companies can improve or enhance the experience even more.
Companies are definitely trying to deliver a positive experience when individuals apply for work. As a candidate, it is important to be an active participant in the process and respond to requests or instructions promptly and clearly.
