Sr. Unix Administrator
Work a long term contract in the Woodlands for an industry leader!
Help the Linux product team become the compute hosting solution of choice within ExxonMobil. The team is looking for a new member to join us in The Woodlands, TX. In this role, you will work with a cross-functional product team from around the world to help deliver the data center Linux compute platform. You will play an active part in expanding the open source community and tools inside the company. As a member of the team, you will also collaborate with application developers, business customers, project managers, and other infrastructure teams.
Primary job responsibilities
Contribute in architecting complex Linux based computer systems
Support the Linux systems that you design and implement
Support the open source platform(s) critical to an enterprise Linux eco-system
Plan and implement policies and procedures to ensure Linux system are consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements
Employ Infrastructure as code mindset through the full infrastructure lifecycle
Develop automation using modern configuration management tools
Use Agile methodologies to quickly adapt to changes in requirements
Deliver solutions on time and on (or under) budget
Identify new ways of solving problems that increase efficiency
Working experience with Linux, preference for experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux
Demonstrable experience in installing, configuring, monitoring and maintaining:
o Linux distributions
o Network protocols
o SAN and NFS storage
o Shell scripting or code development
o IT ticket system and processes (change, incident, and problem management).
Working knowledge of software development practices include
o Source control repositories
o API management
Familiarity with modern development languages (Python, Bash, JSON, Ruby, etc.)
Familiarity with orchestration tools (Ansible, Puppet, Jenkins, Kubernetes, etc.)
Interest in DevOps and in how the entire IT process can be improved
Experience working with a distributed team and communicating between different teams
Familiarity with open source development, projects, and processes is a plus
Must speak, read and write English fluently.
Possess strong coordination skills.
Able to articulate technical issues to a non-technical audience.
Able to refine requirements from business end users, update technical design specification documentation.
Act as a mentor and focal point for more inexperienced admins.
Technical Analysis & Problem solving skills.
Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field
