Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Seek and explore opportunities and relevance of innovative technologies for manufacturing locations globally.
  • Facilitate applications for grants, working with universities and consulting groups on research opportunities.
  • Work with manufacturing and operational leaders in the company to identify and pursue the biggest manufacturing challenges.
  • Work with technology providers (e.g. suppliers, machine builders, etc.) to further develop their products to meet company needs.
  • Lead the design, development, build, qualification and implementation of advanced upholstery manufacturing systems with optimal labor and material costs that improve quality, yield and throughput of our operations.
  • Drive reviews of equipment quotes, lead design reviews, manage and lead project teams to provide these technological solutions.
  • Lead and mange technical solutions to minimize costs while maintaining process reliability.
  • Work with tooling engineers in the development of tools for upholstery application in various manufacturing locations.
  • Transfer knowledge on these topics to other engineering personnel.
  • Write engineering work instructions, ensuring specifications are well defined and documented for these technology applications.
  • Collaborate effectively with all areas of the organization (e.g. manufacturing, industrial design, engineering, marketing, management, customers).
  • Communicate and coordinate activities with multiple functional groups.
  • Work with product development engineers to develop new process technologies that allow us to explore/launch new and innovative product design solutions.
  • Coordinate multiple projects.
  • Travel up to 25% of time.

Qualifications:

  • BS/MS/PhD in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on Upholstery and Upholstery application, or equivalent engineering discipline with appropriate coursework focus
  • 5+ years of experience working with these technologies
  • 3+ years of manufacturing shop floor experience
  • Exposure to the study and application of advanced analytics, innovation simulation and IoT
  • Strong project management/leadership skills and the capability of managing multiple project assignments
  • Professional background in lean manufacturing with experience in kaizen/continuous improvement activity
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes
  • Proficiency with MS Office
  • Working knowledge of SAP is a plus
  • Willingness to work independently and research globally
  • Passion for using critical thinking to implement change
  • Ability to take theory, research and ideas to application, implementation and execution in a manufacturing environment
  • Team-oriented, flexible, must be able to work with all levels of management
  • Functional experience working with engineering design project teams and machine builders/integrators
