Position requires significant travel to die suppliers in Mexico. 80% Travel

Salary Grade: Contract

Functional Job Description: Provide manufacturing feasibility input to product engineering, lead the design and approval of stamping dies at the supplier source, and manage all aspects of the build and prove-out to assure on time delivery and successful launch to the production plant. Scope includes support of all metal stamping dies at internal and external suppliers.

The Tooling Engineer performs the following responsibilities:
Work with product engineering to provide manufacturing feasibility to the product design;
Participate in product design reviews and sign-off on product designs prior to drawing release;
Work with selected die supplier to assure all critical production requirements are communicated and included in the die design;
Work with die suppliers to develop the strip layout, and approve, prior to die design release;
Schedule and lead die design reviews with appropriate personnel, and approve prior to die design release;
Assure all dies meet die standards prior to die design release;
Work with suppliers to assure the appropriate gages are developed;
Schedule and lead gage reviews with appropriate personnel;
Manage the build of dies and gages, maintain open issues list, and communicate status to the SDT (ref. Stamping Tool Work Instruction);
Coordinate with the die supplier, initial tool sample and prove-out runs prior to shipping
Work with the die shop and AQE to assure parts / dies meet dimensional specifications;
Approve die for release and obtain preliminary sign-off from the receiving plant Tool Engineer;
Coordinate and lead the final tool prove-out runs at the production plant;
Maintain open issues and corrective actions list;
Conduct Run @ Rate and obtain final sign-off from the production plant;
Coordinate and hand-off all required documentation to the production plant;

Required qualifications include the following:
Journeyman Tool and Die Maker, or equivalent work experience;
10+ years experience working in industrial stamping and metal forming process;
Strong verbal and written communication skills;
Must display proven interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills;
Must be comfortable working independently or on a team;
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments;
Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines;
Display of good follow through and attention to detail;
Experience with software applications, such as Microsoft Office .
