Job Title: Lab Facilities Specialist

Job Location: West point, PA

Duration: 14+ Months


High School diploma required, two years or four year college degree is a plus.

Required Experience:

Proficient in the following competencies: empowering leadership, flexibility, motivation, teamwork/collaboration, problem-solving, communication, good documentation practices, and computer skills

Knowledge of basic safety standards including hazardous materials and biohazardous materials handling

Hands-on experience with chromatographic and analytical instrumentation.

Preferred Experience:

Knowledge of biological and chemical research facilities

Lean Six Sigma Methodology, Lab decommissioning and relocation


Experience with chromatographic and analytical instrumentation

Attention to detail with demonstrated Good Documentation Practices

Excellent organization to multi-task and manage multiple projects

Ability to work as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude Under the supervision of scientists at Clients research facility in West Point, Pennsylvania, position will be responsible for providing laboratory support services.

Develops and executes strategies for lab decommissioning and relocation activities including analytical instrumentation, chemical, and waste inventory management in accordance with site procedures.

Utilize the CMMS software for logging infrastructure equipment malfunctions and maintenance issues. Order supplies and equipment needed to perform tasks.


Performs all aspects of laboratory decommissioning support services including hazardous materials management, instrument inventory and decontamination, shipping, and documentation.

Collects and maintain inventory of liquid hazardous materials waste and prepare for disposal through authorized waste hauler.

Follows procedures as dictated in the Chemical Hygiene Plan.

Performs functions, within training guidelines and standards, with hazardous/non-hazardous/biological waste to include but not limited to labeling, sorting, transporting, and storing at designated areas.

Performs general maintenance tasks on equipment and facilities.

Work with repair contractors and landlord to explain malfunctions of facilities equipment.

Participate in on-call rotation with other staff to provide after-hours emergency response.

Keep current with all site training requirements including but not limited to: RCRA - Hazardous Waste Handling, HAZWOPER - 40, HAZCOM, SPCC, DOT, biosafety and bio waste handling, site SOPs, and any other training required by Merck.

Inspect fire life safety equipment including fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, emergency showers, emergency lighting, and fire extinguishers.

Perform radioactive materials wipe testing, waste consolidation, and shipping duties. Maintain facilities regulatory permit files and provide testing/sampling as required

Work in collaboration with Global Safety and Environmental staff to assure compliance and safety audit readiness
